Two years ago, during Bit Gen Gamer Fest, I was introduced to a band called The Protomen. I had no idea what to expect until they began to play and they blew my mind. To this day, The Protomen still put on one of the greatest shows I have ever seen live. Everything from their energy, to their music, costumes, stage presence, and crowd interaction was fantastic. Back then I was using a Canon 30D camera body with a 50mm f/1.8 lens as my only low-light lens option so shooting, especially in a crowded area with no designated press area, was difficult to say the least. The photos turned out but I was restless. I knew I could do better. I wanted to see them again, to get better equipment, and fully capture how animated and passionate they are on stage. Finally, after two years, I was able to photograph them again at MAGFest 2013! I have a new camera body, a new lens specifically purchased for low-light concert photography, I had gained more experience as a concert photographer, and now I had my chance. Words cannot explain how excited I was to shoot them!
The wait was well worth it. They put on an even better show than before! The photo set, containing coverage from their recent MAGFest 2013 show, has more than 50 photos in it. I hope you enjoy them and I hope they inspire you to see The Protomen live and, if you have seen them live, I hope they help you keep the memory of that night alive.
